This happened a while ago. I was volunteering at a summer camp run for 5-9 year olds by my middle school. I was about fourteen but this was my third year working at this camp. Most of the other counselors were college students. For the past two years, the camp director was amazing and created a whole book of norms/schedules/plans for camp. This year, we got a new director, who of course did not read any of the book. I was literally the only counselor who was returning to the camp this year, everyone else was new. So the old director asked me to help the new one out. When I met the new director, who we'll call Ann, she insisted she knew what she was doing, understood the routines, and didn't want help, especially because I was too young to know what I was doing. Okay, fine, I left her alone. Ann was a nightmare. She yelled at the campers at least twice a day, I mean YELLED, so much some of the kids cried and wanted to go home and never come back to our camp. She also YELLED at the counselors for not knowing what was going on. They were new, of course they didn't know what was going on. She didn't bother to teach them or anything. Anytime I asked her a question, she got annoyed with me for bothering her. I was in charge of the art projects for the camp. This meant I independently planned the projects, made sure we had the materials, kept the materials closet organized, and led the projects. This was my summer year in this role, so I knew what I was doing. I had a bunch of projects planned for the first couple weeks with clay, beads, and paint, but they ended up being too complicated and the kids lost interest and started arguing with each other instead. So as the summer progressed, I mostly stuck to paper-and-marker projects: origami, posters, d be surprised how many different projects you can come up with with just paper and markers. This kept the kids' attention and was easy to clean up, so I stuck with it. One day Ann called me into the conference room she converted into her office (by throwing her papers everywhere on the table and not letting anyone else in. The conversation as follows: Ann: Your art projects are too simple, make them more complicated. Me: I tried to do that, for example a beads project, but it was too hard for the kids. They got confused and frustrated and didn't want to do the project. I told them they were welcome to sit out, but then they got bored and started fighting. The simpler projects keep them occupied. Ann: Don't talk back to me! Me: I'm sorry, I was just explaining. Ann: You don't know what you're doing, you're too young to really understand. Here, do these projects instead! Shoved papers into my hands* Me: This first project requires reading and writing, we're talking about five-year-olds. Ann: Just do it. I'll come watch to make sure you do. Okay. This project was a travel journal made out of a single piece of paper. They had to do complicated paper-cutting and folding (which I couldn't get the hang of myself) not to mention read the dozen-step instructions and write. But I had my instructions. So I gave five-year-olds scissors to cut paper, a project I knew full well they couldn't do, and an hour of time. With my previous too-hard projects, a couple of them couldn't do it. Now, I had twenty confused crying campers on my hands and three counselors in the room. We tried to help them, but they were bored and couldn't write. Chaos. Basically the counselors ended up doing the projects for the kids while half the kids cried and the other half played catch with scissors. The director watched this mess without even trying to help and yelled at the crying campers for not doing the project. Everyone hated that, so I assumed nobody would blame me for taking a couple steps out of the next project. It was a ten-step painting project that with some minor tweaks I made into a three-step painting project where the end result looked similar. Much better. The kids could do it and actually enjoyed it. And it was Ann's project, so she couldn't yell at me, right? I did the same thing with the rest of her projects. The next week, Ann called me into her conference-room-turned-office. Ann: You didn't do my projects. Me: The end result was the same, I just simplified them some after the travel journals. Ann: The travel journals went well! Me: The kids couldn't write. Or read. Ann: Well, you should have helped them more than. You need to learn how to follow instructions. Me: I thought my job was to adapt the instructions to make them suitable for the kids' enjoyment? Ann: Just do what you're told. Here. Do this project and follow the instructions to the letter. Me: If the project is the same, can I explain it to the campers differently? Ann: No. This project was a TWELVE-STEP turtle flower pot project. The first five steps were finger-painting. The next three steps were a really complicated cutting and pasting design project. The final steps required actually filling flowerpots with dirt and planting seeds. Neat project in theory, but I wouldn't do it with little kids. And looking at the instructions, the same project could be done in four or five much easier steps. But I did what I was told. I read the twelve-step instructions to the campers. Nobody can keep track of twelve steps in their head, so they were already confused. One of the other counselors asked if we could simplify it. Nope. It only took twenty minutes before paint was everywhere, kids were throwing scissors, nobody knew what was going on, they didn't want to do this and hated it. Ann came down into this chaos. Ann: What's going on here? Me: The project was too complicated for the kids. Ann: Well make it simpler! Me: You told me to follow the instructions to the letter. Ann: Fine. This happened again with another project the next day. And the next day. And the next. One day, Ann changed her tune: Ann: What's going on here? Me: The project was too complicated for the kids. Ann: Look, please just end this chaos. Okay, fine, now that I'm not disobeying instructions, I can't make the kids suffer just to make Ann miserable. It took about five minutes to simplify the project and get the kids engaged. Ann just stormed off. After that, I grudgingly worked with her for two more summers (until she left camp because she realized she actually hated kids. She never again told me I was too young to know what I was doing or got upset about my art projects.

Turning the grudge into a cheap jump scare movie 🤦🏼♀️ I want my psychological horror movies back not jumpscare cause its a cheap scare. The grudge cast. The grudge 2020 csfd. I posted this on this Reddit six or seven months ago but I've since refined it a little and made a few changes. It's the story of my 18-year relationship with my wife. Like many of us here I had no idea that she was a narcissist until after the discard. In fact, I had no idea that it was a personality disorder. I just thought that the word was a means of describing somebody who thought a little too much of themselves. How very wrong I was. In the beginning it was perfect. It was as if all roads in your life had been converging on this point. Every false start that you had endured, every betrayal you had suffered, everything that had ever happened to you in your miserable, unfulfilled life was merely a rehearsal. It was all leading up to this moment. And she was beautiful. Impossibly beautiful. And funny. And kind. And generous. And wise. You wondered what you had ever done to deserve such a rare treasure. You wallowed in her sweet aroma. You basked in her dusky body heat. You worshipped her being. In the bedroom you had never experienced such bliss, such sensory pleasures, such togetherness. When you talked it was as if you were one and the same person. She was perfect. And wonder upon wonder she believed that you were perfect too. She told you how handsome you were. How witty. How clever. How special. She wanted to find out everything about you and didnt seem remotely troubled by your more obvious imperfections. The things that had held you back all your life. The scars that stubbornly refused to heal. This was love. You were experiencing LOVE. Real love. True love. Enraptured to be entangled in its silky net. Your world is shattered into pieces and already you would do anything to glue those broken shards back together again. In the morning come the apologies. The tears. The explanations. Always the explanations. Its hormones, she tells you. Its a medical condition, she will say later. Its this. Its that. So you wrap your arms around her trembling shoulders and tell her not to worry. We can fix this, you say. Together you and I can make this righ t. And she kisses you and a smile lights up her beautiful face. The snarling, spitting stranger from yesterday now banished forever. Until the next time that is. The days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months and the months turn into years. The passage of time is immaterial so long as you have your Love Twin. A baby arrives. And even though you never really wanted one you pick the little girl up in your arms and youre in love all over again. Now there are three of you. Three of you against the world. You pose before the camera lens and smile. You dont deserve this. You dont deserve such happiness. Nobody does. And then… And then… Things begin to change. Slowly. Insidiously. Like the stationary hands of a clock you are unaware of any movement until you chance to look away. Youre the same person that you always were. At least, youre mostly the same person. Sure, you dont go out as much as you used to but then you have different priorities nowadays. For one thing theres a toddler to look after. To feed. To clean. To entertain. What could be more important than that? And so what if youre losing touch with your friends? And for that matter your family, too? But thats only natural, isnt it? You keep telling yourself that. Why does she do that strange thing? Verbally attacking the people you care about so that these days you're wary of introducing her to anybody? It must be because she loves you so much that she wants to have you all to herself. Yes, thats the reason. Its charming really. Sweet. And then one evening you catch your reflection in the mirror. You look older. Heavier. Youve put on thirty… Forty pounds and your belt strains against your flabby belly. You limp a little, too. You really must see a doctor about that when you have a moment…) There are dark circles under your eyes – hardly surprising given how hard it is to sleep at night. Whod be a father, huh? And yes, youre a little down these days. Well a lot down actually. You know that you are. She tells you all the time that you are. She tells you because she cares about you. Because she's your Love Twin. But then theres so much to worry about. So much work to do. Its only natural. When you met your L ove Twin you were a writer. You even sold a few books in your time. But thats in the past. Youve put your career temporarily on hold while you attend to more important matters. And yes, you hate the job that necessity forced you to take. You really despise it if youre honest with yourself. The thought of doing it sometimes makes you feel physically sick. But you dont have a choice because theres the baby to look after. You have to be there to take her to school. And you have to be there to pick her up afterwards. Its lucky that we found a job with such flexible hours. Wed have been in real trouble if we hadnt been able to do this. And every evening you wait for her to come home. She doesnt like to cook so its best that you do it. And even if your meagre efforts are often rewarded with a grimace its not really important. You smile at her as she floats into the house. She pecks you on the cheek and frowns. She doesnt notice the aftershave that youve doused yourself in especially for her. Shes oblivious to the softness of your chin. (Naturally, you love her so much that its become your habit to ensure that youre freshly shaved and showered for that special moment when she floats in through the door. To grudging appreciation you serve the food that youve prepared. You swallow it down whole and it sticks in your teeth. You stack the dishwasher and put the baby to bed. Except that shes no longer a baby. Shes growing up fast. Full of questions. Too many questions. I simply dont have enough energy left to reply… No more questions. Please. No more demands. You hear the pulse of your heart as you fight to keep your eyes open. So you read to the little girl until she begins to fall asleep. But youre falling asleep too. Youre falling asleep all the time. Without ever noticing it a stranger has moved into your house. But you dont know shes a stranger. She stares at that chunk of metal and glass in her hand. Endlessly… Endlessly… Endlessly… Tapping away like a metronome. Gently smiling at nobody. Immersed in secret thoughts. Yet she never seems to hear your thoughts. And if she does hear you she wont let you speak. If only shed stop interrupting me, you cry* I could tell her whats really on my mind. But then… But then… Youve forgotten what it was you wanted to say. Perhaps its just as well. It couldnt have been that important anyway. Your Love Twin works very hard. Its perfectly understandable if she sometimes gets frustrated and hits out at you. And even if some of the things she calls you are nasty – well unforgivably nasty, in fact, the sort of things that no person should ever say to another – its best that you keep the peace. You cant really blame your Love Twin for telling it like it is. After all, you know that youre too sensitive… That you overreact… That your depression is bound to cloud your judgement… That you overthink things… That youre damaged… You know this because she tells you so. Not to hurt or criticise, you understand. But because she loves you. You know that she loves you because sometimes there still are those moments of bliss. Less frequently, of course. Not so often as they used to be. (B ringing up a child isnt easy, you know. Well actually its gotten to the point in which youve given up trying. She tells you to calm down. To get a grip. To get over it. That its nobodys fault that you both have different sex drives. Naturally she has a point. Sometimes you try to tell her how unhappy this makes you feel. But its not really that big a deal. Because every now and again – once or twice a month if you're counting – you will feel her creamy flesh against yours. She will extend her arms towards you and for a brief few moments everything is as it should be. You inhale the love. You suck it in. A desperate unspeakable kind of love. How lucky you are to have found your soulmate. Youre the love of my life, she will gently whisper into your ear. She tells you this all the time and you know that it is true. How is it possible that your daughter is starting senior school today? Why, it only seems like yesterday that you watched her mother squeeze that frail little body out from between her thighs and into the light. Do the years really pass so quickly? Youve lost your mojo. Youre not the man you used to be, has become her mantra. You used to be so wild… Lippy… Uncontrollable… A real rebel… Perhaps you should see a doctor? Maybe therapy would be good for you? And shes right. Of course shes right. You can feel it in your crumbling bones. You can see it in your your blood-shot eyes. How did you become such a disappointment? How could you let your Love Twin down like this? Surely she deserves better? Shes an important woman now. You cant believe how much money she earns from that job of hers. Well, career is the more accurate way of describing it. (Remember when you had a career. Youre so proud of her. So proud that she gets to travel around the world: to New York… Milan… Paris… Berlin… You tell her that her achievement is your achievement. That staying home to babysit your daughter on those dark winter nights is small fry compared to the pressure, the responsibility that she has to bear on a daily basis. Youre so proud of her. So proud… But even as you have changed over the years, so has she. Shes 44 now but looks ten years younger. Everybody says so. Youre 53 but look ten years older. Nobody ever mentions this. They dont have to. Theres no getting away from the fact that youre an older man with no power, she scornfully tells you one afternoon. Whereas I look better than Ive ever done. And who can disagree? She does look better. More beautiful than she ever did. And clearly its no accident. You have to admire her for the number of hours she puts in at the gym. You hate the gym yourself. You dont know how she does it. Certainly all her new friends seem to agree with her. They love her. They worship her. And who can blame them? Its such a breath of fresh air, you try to reassure yourself, that she basks in the glow of these bright young flames. Much better than worn out old farts like me. Its incredible really. You dont know where she gets the energy from. Three… Four… Sometimes five nights a week shes out there putting in a full shift with those youngsters. Clubs… Gigs… Festivals… Fancy restaurants… Well, with a job like hers shes entitled to let her hair down from from time to time. We all are. But where exactly did these people come from? These flawless, unblemished, unwrinkled young friends of hers? You cant really be sure. They just seemed to appear one day, to materialise out of thin air: a couple of new faces here and there and then more and more and more. Names mentioned in passing and then in every other breath. And they carry with them new experiences… Alternative attitudes… The foreign language of the next generation… New music… Indecipherable sounds that make no sense to you but your Love Twin somehow seems to effortlessly assimilate. She doesnt even listen to any of our music any more. But then come to think of it she never really did listen to it. How could you not notice? Sometimes she even lets you tag along for the ride and you pretend to enjoy yourself as youre dragged around a flickering dance floor inhabited by people twenty years your junior. Amused to see you. Embarrassed to be seen with you. I dont really want to be doing this, you meekly whisper under your breath, but I love her and shes probably having some kind of mid-life crisis. Yes, thats it – a mid-life crisis. Its those pesky hormones again. Those irritating chemicals that are to blame for those infamous temper tantrums of hers. She needs my support so that one day shell come back to me and Ill have her all to myself again. After all, Im her husband and best friend. Its my duty. Its the least I can do. But yes, it can hurt. Deep down it can really hurt. You never mention it but you hate how she dresses these days. Skin tight jeans… Plunging necklines… So much bare flesh. So much cleavage. Who exactly is she putting it on display for? Well obviously its for your benefit because youre the love of her life. You know this because barely a week goes by without her telling you so. Despite everything you still have that special bond that brought you together. That made you Love Twins. Shes still your soul mate. She never stops telling you that. 17 years is a long time in anybodys book. And dont forget that you created a daughter together. A living, breathing human miracle. And then one day your reality crumbles. It dissolves into a fine dust that floats through the air and clogs up your lungs. Purely by accident (was it really an accident. you discover your Love Twin is not abroad on business as she is supposed to be. Shes actually still in London. Why on earth is she still here? If texts could scream, your desperate pleas would be heard at the far edge of the universe. Liar! You exclaim. How could you do this to us? Stop making a fool of yourself, comes her deadpan response. Hes just a friend helping me go through a difficult time – Im trying to sort out our relationship. Give me his name then! You demand. I dont know what youll do, she says. I cant trust you. Slowly, imperceptibly slowly, the truth is drip-fed to you over the coming weeks in bite-sized flakes. Hidden away in meandering sentences the lies detach themselves from fact and float to the surface like oil in a puddle of muddy water. I have feelings for him, she calmly admits one afternoon as you melt before her, your voice hoarse from all the shouting. Hes 31 – a whole quarter of a century younger than you – Italian, thick of hair, tanned to perfection. His youth an incurable disease. Far better looking than the empty shell of a man that youve become. Hes a nice guy, she announces jauntily. You should meet him. And hes by no means the first. You discover this as you pick away at her tapestry of deception. There was that young guy at the gym, Ahh… The gym! The penny drops and rolls away into the distance… The gym. I bet you didn't know that I was sexting him last year at the Xmas dinner table? Sending him naked pictures of myself… You know, the ones that you took of me because I asked you to… Remember? And even a couple of one-night stands at parties. No, I cant remember their names … It's not important… Even a Calvin Klein model she announces, scarcely able to conceal her pride. Her achievement. Her achievement is your achievement…) Im pretty hot, you know, she smirks in a voice you've never heard before. You throw her out of the house and she takes an Uber to her Italian toyboy. You intercept the email that she sends to him in transit: Im sorry you had to be involved, she writes. My husbands gone crazy! I love you xxx. And you have gone crazy. How could you not go crazy? And all her young friends know that youre crazy. Her family do, too. They know youre crazy because shes told them that youre crazy. Your Love Twin has made it her duty to do so. I hate you! Stop abusing me! You lose all understanding. Your world collapses around you. You dont know where all these words are coming from. You no longer recognise the person saying them. You cry. You rage. You plead. You whimper. Your Love Twin has gone. Somebody else has her now and an imposter has taken her place. In a long neglected alcove of your mind a memory flickers away in the half light. And you find yourself thinking back to that morning all those years ago. And that alarm bell tinkling gently away in your loved-up brain. Naturally you let her back into the house. There was never really any doubt that you would. A couple of days later you greet her at the front door. You and your hangover. Your only companion. Your new best friend. You tearfully tell her youre prepared to forgive. Have you no self-respect? comes her retort. So cold. So icy. You explain that youre willing to go into therapy with her. To try to work out why shes behaving like this. Both of you know that this isnt really her. Something has happened to mess up her head. 17 years together cannot be thrown away in the blink of an eye. On one condition, she frostily announces, that I can carry on seeing him at the same time… And then one day it all becomes too much for you. The pressure crushes your spine. Your shoulders are blocks of ice. Nothing you can force into your body can nullify the pain. You pack a couple of bags: Underwear. Socks. In only a couple of months youve lost that thirty or forty pounds that youd piled on over the years. You look older than ever. And even the pills cannot bring the blessed relief of sleep. You say goodbye to your daughter, almost an adult now. You cling to each other and she tries to hold back the tears. And then you bid a last farewell to your Love Twin. How could you do this to me? you plead. It was bigger than me, she shrugs. But how could you tell so many lies? I lie because I can, she replies, with a cheerful smile. And then she wraps her arms around you and you feel her tears creep down your neck. Youre the love of my life, she whispers in your ear as you close the door behind you and head off into nowhere. When I watched this movie I was waaay too young, and I watched it without adult supervision. and it traumatized me and I wasnt even able to see the cover without almost starting to cry. and it had that effect on me well into my teens. Its just now recently (I am now 23, 24 in 4 monthes) that I have been able to even see clips of the movie and be ok. The grudge game. "The Grudge (2020) features a handful of characters we are introduced to throughout the entirety of the film's ninety-minute runtime. We are first presented with the character of Fiona Landers (Tara Westwood) who was presumably working in Tokyo at the original home before deciding to flee back to the states out of sheer panic. Despite her eagerness to leave, it means nothing because when she returns home to 44 Rayburn Drive, the curse of Kayako has already infected the family and plagued the home. This inciting event kicks off the haunting that will alter the lives of all who enter the home. However, it is not Fiona who functions as our main protagonist, it is instead Detective Muldoon (Andrea Riseborough) that takes up that role. As an audience member, you will recognize that Muldoon will be the primary character because Buhler and Pesce pull out all of the stops in an attempt to make you emotionally care for her and her situation. Nevertheless, we follow her as she and her partner Goodman (Demián Bichir) investigate a car crash from a couple of years ago. It is then revealed to everyone present that this grizzly death has been linked to the sinister house on Rayburn Drive. Goodman's response to hearing this information ignites the spark that lights Detective Muldoon's obsession with the history of the home. From this moment forward the film begins its story by showcasing the tales of multiple families from across the years who have had the displeasure of stepping foot inside the home. We see real estate agents Nina (Betty Gilpin) and Peter Spencer (John Cho) as they deal with the stress of their unborn child, along with long-time married couple, Faith (Lin Shaye) and William Matheson (Frankie Faison) who's warped reality of the curse leads to a few inexplicable events. The family matters are all uncovered by Muldoon as she sifts through voice recordings and case files in order to uncover what truly occurred to the people connected to 44 Rayburn Drive. Muldoon chooses to investigate the case with such a burning desire, but due to her detachment from the house and the prior cases, we are left wondering why she would even continue. All the while, we go along for the ride with Muldoon as she falls deeper into the rabbit hole unshrouding the mystery. However, with every discovery, Muldoon's world becomes more consumed with the curse of Kayako. The film's nonlinearity is a genius reflection of the structure utilized in the 2002 original. Unfortunately, the issue with this scattered nonlinear technique of storytelling is that it sets up scares, frightens the viewers, and immediately jumps to the next scene without letting things breathe; it refuses to force the audience to sit with the traumatic actions being played out in front of them. The film would rather make you jump with cheap scares than establish a meaningful and terrifying mythos that can linger with viewers for years to come.

Cant wait😍. Nicolas Pesce took a giant swing and missed when he decided to helm another installment in the long-running "Grudge" series of films. Unfortunately, this rendition of the haunted house tale does very little to mystify and terror audiences as Takashi Shimizu's 2002 classic, Ju-On: The Grudge" did so many years ago. The film does nothing new to reinvent the horror space in any meaningful way, instead, it utilizes the same old tired and overused tropes of the 2010s we have all grown accustomed to; ominous noises, character investigation, music sting, jump scare, rinse and repeat. "The Grudge (2020) is a dime a dozen, it is no exception to the rule, it is the rule.
